A UK teen beauty queen has been setting the hearts of Kollywood fans ablaze after a recent appearance in the Tamil film, Madrasapattinam. After Amy Jackson won the Miss Teen World beauty pageant in 2008 when she was 16, she was recruited by Indian director A.L. Vijay to star in Madrasapattinam, a period romance set during India’s struggle for independence.
In it, Jackson plays the young Miss Amy Wilkinson, a British noblewoman who falls in love with the local dhobi (washerman), played by actor Arya, after the two strike up a friendship. The film, whose plot closely resembles that of Hollywood’s Titanic (old woman with a piece of jewelry on a search for her past), was released in early July and has steadily remained at the top of the Chennai box office. Ever since the film’s release, Jackson has been besieged by love-struck fans.
“We did a promotional tour across India and everywhere we went there were thousands of screaming fans at every venue. It’s so crazy; it’s like two different worlds. Everything is calm at home and I’m just Amy, then when I go to India I get mobbed. Now I get at least 150 emails from fans every day.” Having admitted that she would not have considered switching to acting until much later in her career, Amy is now a Bollywood convert. She added: “Acting is my job now and I take it very seriously. I’ve been reading through some Bollywood scripts and I’ll definitely do another film.” [Link.]
We can’t wait to see where the young Miss Jackson ends up next!
